Measuring noise levels is the most important part of a workplace noise control and hearing conservation program. Measurement identifies if the noise is within acceptable levels, and/or work areas and workers who may be affected.

Some clues that noise in your workplace is a potential problem are:

People have to raise their voice to talk to someone an arms length away,
Your workers report roaring or ringing noises in their ears at the end of the workday,
Speech or music sounds muffled after people leave work, but it sounds fairly clear in the morning when they return to work

The first step is to determine whether or not noise is a potential problem in your workplace. A walk-through survey helps in making this decision.
